  • Laurel Morgan Parks @fiddlemaiden - Extremely talented and non-stop Kansas City musician and composer. She’s in the dreamy Indie band Of Tree (@oftree) and the cinematic violin and cello duo The Wires. (@the_wires_string_duo) I used a Hasselblad Softar soft focus filter in front of the lens and gridded lights for 10% of Laurel’s vintage glamour look. The other 90% came from Laurel. As an aside, while I love vintage equipment and techniques, I have zero interest in vintage attitudes. The qualities of personal glamour that I want to portray are found in strength, independence, and intelligence.

  • Extreme Farmer David Wayne Reed. Not only is his tractor bigger than yours, it goes to eleven. When he is not extreme farming, David is a filmmaker - Eternal Harvest, playwright - Help Yourself, Jolly Rancher, Mother Trucker, director, producer, and actor. KC Pitch (2017 Best of KC issue) says he is one of 25 reasons ‘Why We Love KC Now.’ Mr. Reed hosts and produces the popular storytelling series, Shelf Life, and, is an insightful and genuinely nice guy to be around.

  • Ben Parks - Kansas City based artist (@brancesoftree) and musician (@oftree). To say that Ben does large scale portraits and figurative work doesn't really do justice to his art. You need more words like “amazing” and “soulful” which can also be applied to the music that he and Laurel (@fiddlemaiden) create. The loop, almost butterfly, light in this portrait comes from a gridded beauty dish - something Ben found to be highly amusing.

  • Patrick Dobson - writer, historian, and ironworker with a PhD in history. He has done a few things that I am unlikely to do: Walk 1,450 miles from Kansas City, Missouri to Helena, Montana. Write a book about it. Canoe 1,450 miles back to Kansas City. Write a book about that. I like to make my portrait work be like a conversation in which photographs are made, rather than the typical one way style of photographer aims camera at latest victim. As part of our conversation, Patrick took a few photos of me which can be seen @ShootingWithFilm
